What is seaweed?

Seaweed is a special kind of plants growing in the ocean. There are more than 300 different species of seaweed in Danish waters and they are divided into 3 major groups: brown algae, red algae and green algae.

Seaweed or algae?

Seaweed and algae are almost the same but not quite. The group of algae contains both microalgae – which are tiny and can almost only be seen using a microscope – and macroalgae which are the same as seaweed.
